Since then, the invention of the electric TV offered a higher resolution and was easier to mass-produce, rendering Baird’s mechanical televisions obsolete. This early TV set was on the small side, using reflected light to create a low-resolution image the size of a postage stamp. The Baird Televisor became the first television sold commercially in 1929. Today, we’re celebrating the innovations that continue to entertain us from the comfort of our homes, as we tune into the storied history of television sets throughout the decades. Even the way we consume content on our screens has changed with the rise of streaming services. What once was a bulky box on your entertainment center is now a flat panel you can mount on your wall.
